The bully wipes away a tear
And whimpers: I’m the victim here.
The other bully’s sobbing too
He screams: I hurt far more than you.
Each feels his pain’s beyond compare;
Each feels it’s much too much to bear.
The bully’s saying threateningly
Now you must suffer just like me.
The response is strong and curt:
I’ll make you hurt because I’m hurt.
The bully says with righteous pride:
I know that God is on my side.
The other bully scornfully
Says: God is great, and he backs me.
With such deep pain these two are filled
A thousand onlookers get killed.
The bully sees all those he slew
And says: Look what you made me do.
The other bully feels no shame
And says: You only are to blame.
The bully wipes away a tear
And whimpers: ‘I’m the victim here.’
